American College – The Perfect Breeding Grounds For Business
College students, especially those in large, popular state and private universities, come at a distinct advantage over those of us graduated or who never got their degree. Students are constantly on a campus, in dorm rooms, eating a school cafeterias filled with people in tight demographic ranges. Most universities are split with 50/50% male to female ratios, accumulating of 18 – 24-year-olds from middle-working class families.
These demographics are very easy to market to (at least they have been for me), and for a fellow college student, it should be even easier to figure out general interests of the area and what guys and girls are looking for. For the college student looking to make a little money while doing their homework, a bit of Internet marketing and some light labor could make some very nice dough.
- The Oldest Trick in the Book
This is a common form of on campus advertising. Take a credit card offer, pay a few other college students 8 bucks to stand outside at a small stand in a busy area of the campus, pitch some slogans out to sign up for their new student American Express, and buy any applicant a free Arby’s roast beef sandwich or hand them out a coupon for a free sub at Subways. You pay those two workers 120 dollars for a full day, and a few bucks each for each application filled out. Anyone that gets accepted for a card will nail you $20 or more. It’s simple, proven, and makes easy money.
- What Do Students Need the Most?
When I entered my first year of college, I was astounded by the amazing frickin’ costs of text books. Some of them cost me over $100 and I didn’t even use them. I just put them up for sale at about 10% of what I bought them for so I could have some ramen noodle money. Now, you can be the guy that buys these from students and resells them at higher values on eBay or Amazon, but that requires capital. If you are like me before I discovered making money online, I didn’t have any money. Here is a better plan for you.
Get signed up for some affiliate programs like eBay, Amazon, and some book sellers on Commission Junction. Create a website that lists some books you know students need. You might even be able to get access to the database of book codes and easily script a site that grabs each book and links to it with your affiliate links. Print out some flyers using your campus printers (should be free or very cheap) and make sure they have some tear-away slips with the website URL, and tape them up anywhere students might gather up and see them. Drop them on the floor, ask your teacher to hand them out, anything! Sit back and watch the cash fly in.
- Exploiting the Frats
I hate to generalize, but you know what all the fraternity boys are usually into. They like to party, get drunk, and have lots of girls around them. Hit them up at one of your parties with an awesome bong you bought online at any site that happens to have a affiliate program, too! Set them up with some sexy cam girl show, porn, or dating site to get a little income going, too.
- And How About The Sororities?
Girls in college are worried about two things: How they look and how they look. You can use tear-away posters to try and sell them Acai berries. Post that stuff in the bathroom, woman’s lounges, beauty shops around campus, etc. Many cam sites also pay out if you refer a girl that shows her body off. Get that referral bonus if you meet some girls that are brave enough to try it out. It nails them money and they just might be in need of that.
- For Those That Go to School to Study
Some of the college-goers actually go to get a little knowledge out of those boring history lectures. It’s so boring, they even find it hard to stay up through class. There are several pharmaceutical products that help you stay awake. If you can find one of these types of affiliate programs and market it out to where the “smarties” sit and study (student lounge, library, dorm halls, etc), I bet you could find a few more bucks in your pocket. Other services like online tutors and whatnot might work as well.
The best marketers play off of their end-user’s wants, needs, and fears (probably the most powerful influencer in the decision process). You can tell that most college students have plenty to fear like having a poor social life, going broke, and failing tests. Playing off these fears is exactly what you need to do. Exploit them, keep the solution easily accessable, and profit.

Although I am a college student I must say that affiliate marketing towards them is so easy!
I find that even more social pressures are placed on college students which makes them more prone to your advertising methods. To make the situation even better for many students, college is the first time that they have disposable income that they are willing to spend on frivolous marketing ploys such as berries or “Get Rich Now!”
Not to mention the endless amount of incredibly cheap labor…
